Selling is offering to exchange something of value for something else. The something of value being offered may be tangible or intangible. The something else, usually money, is most often seen by the seller as being of equal or greater value than that being offered for sale. Another person or organization expressing an interest in acquiring the offered thing of value is referred to as a potential buyer, prospective customer or prospect. Buying and selling are understood to be two sides of the same "coin" or transaction. Both seller and buyer engage is in a process of negotiation to consummate the exchange of values. The exchange, or selling, process has implied rules and identifiable stages. It is implied that the selling process will proceed fairly and ethically so that the parties end up nearly equally rewarded. The stages of selling, and buying, involve getting acquainted, assessing each party’s need for the other’s item of value, and determining if the values to be exchanged are equivalent or nearly so, or, in buyer's terms, "worth the price.”

From a management viewpoint it is thought of as a part of marketing, although the skills required are different. Sales often forms a separate grouping in a corporate structure, employing separate specialist operatives known as salespersons (singular: salesperson). Selling is considered by many to be a sort of persuading "art". Contrary to popular belief, the methodological approach of selling refers to a systematic process of repetitive and measurable milestones, by which a salesman relates his or her offering of a product or service in return enabling the buyer to achieve their goal in an economic way. While the sales process refers to a systematic process of repetitive and measurable milestones, the definition of the selling is somewhat ambiguous due to the close nature of advertising, promotion, public relations, and direct marketing.

What are good methods for concert ticket selling?
Q. So my band is playing in the Skinnie Magazine Top 100 Bands event on April 2nd. And my band needs to sell around 30 tickets at about $15 each to people. The problem is, I really suck at selling things to people, so when I am not around my band, I really don't sell any. So, anyone have any good advice on selling these tickets to people, basically convincing people they want to come haha. All help is appreciated!

A. Do you have a Myspace or Face book? If so then what I would do is set an event date and invite people to it, this usually helps a lot and I've seen it work for some of my friends bands. It works well because so many people use them and information gets around really fast! If your band doesn't have a Myspace I would extremely recommend getting one. If that doesn't work try calling your friends and asking them to call there friends and spread the word. Or post a craigslist add for the concert if you are allowed to. If none of these work you could always try putting an add in the newspaper or something...

How to avoid legal ramifications for selling to minors at a house party?
Q. I would like to have a keg as well as other alcohol and charge a price for a cup. This is my college graduation party. I would not like to be liable for selling. Is selling a cup considered selling alcohol when they have the option of what they put into it? I spoke to many of the neighbors and they are ok w/ me having a party.

A. Welcome to college. I would certainly be careful about who you give drinks to. I don't think you can do anything to get you out of trouble if a minor gets drunk and does something stupid during or after the party. The real question is, why are you worried about this now after 4 years of college? One option is to charge for entry and hand out cups. If you see someone really young or someone you don't know, ask for an ID if you are that worried. You can also just ask for Tips instead of money for entry or alcohol. If you want to cover your butt, make sure you watch out for people who are getting too wasted and cut them off/ensure they don't drive. Ensuring you have a place to crash for people who get too wasted is also a good way… [cont.]
